Cole Custer Finishes 31st in Cup Series Race at Naval Base Coronado.

SAN DIEGO, CA (June 21, 2026) – Cole Custer charged from 25th into the top 10 during Sunday’s race at Naval Base Coronado, but a broken toe link after a late-race restart ended a promising run and left the No. 41 team with a 31st-place finish.

Cole Custer fought through handling issues before a late mechanical problem spoiled a strong run in Sunday’s race in San Diego. After qualifying 25th in his No. 41 Texas A&M Chevrolet, Custer steadily worked his way forward in the opening stage, climbing as high as 19th while dealing with rear tire grip issues. He continued to gain positions before a caution for a runaway tire ended Stage One early.

The No. 41 Texas A&M Chevrolet kept making progress in Stage Two, moving from the back half of the field into contention. A red flag on lap 32 helped move Custer up to 11th, and he soon broke into the top 10 with a pass on Tyler Reddick. A late pit strategy call allowed the team to gain track position heading into the final stage.

Custer restarted 13th for Stage Three and stayed in the fight despite minor front-end damage suffered on the opening lap. He remained inside the top 10 during a long green-flag run but made a scheduled pit stop before a caution on lap 60 moved him back up to 11th for the restart. However, a broken toe link sent the No. 41 Texas A&M Chevrolet to pit road for repairs, and after losing several laps, Custer returned to the track and finished 31st.
