HFT Teammates Mayer and Creed Earn Top-Five Finishes at Pocono in O’Reilly Series.
LONG POND, PA (June 13, 2026) – Haas Factory Team earned a pair of top-five finishes in Saturday’s NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Pocono Raceway. Sam Mayer led laps and battled for the win before finishing fourth, while Sheldon Creed came home fifth after running inside the top five late. Cole Custer overcame a 36th-place start and early race damage to rally to 12th.
41 Sam Mayer
Sam Mayer continued his strong of strong runs at Pocono with a fourth-place finish on Saturday. After qualifying seventh in the No. 41 Audibel Chevrolet, Mayer used a series of early restarts to charge to the front of the field. Despite battling a tight car in turns one and three, he took the lead late in Stage One and raced Taylor Gray for the top spot before finishing second in the stage and earning nine points.
After taking four tires and fuel at the stage break, Mayer restarted 16th and methodically worked his way back through the field. The team elected to short pit before the end of Stage Two as Mayer restarted 12th and climbed to seventh by the end of the segment. This allowed the team to stay out during the stage caution and move the No. 41 Audibel Chevrolet into the top three to begin the final stage.
Mayer battled Justin Allgaier for the lead throughout the final stage and took over the top spot with 33 laps remaining. Following a green-flag pit stop and a string of late cautions, Mayer restarted from the lead with eight laps to go. However, a red flag and final restart shuffled the field, leaving Mayer with a solid fourth-place finish and his fifth career top-10 in the O’Reilly Series at Pocono.
“We executed really well all day and put ourselves in a good spot at the end. To show up and struggle in the morning and then be good in the race is super rewarding,” Mayer said. “We’re trending in the right direction, and the next step is to get this Audibel Chevrolet in victory lane.”
00 Sheldon Creed
Sheldon Creed and the No. 00 Vielight Chevrolet team showed strong speed throughout Saturday’s race at Pocono, ultimately coming home fifth. After qualifying 16th, Creed overcame several early restarts to climb to 11th before a late caution in Stage One. Despite battling a car that was free and then tight through the center of the corners, Creed stayed out and used another strong restart to drive into sixth at the end of the stage, earning five stage points.
After taking four tires and fuel at the stage break, Creed restarted 17th and quickly charged back into the top 10. Benefiting from fresh tires and strong corner exit speed, he worked his way to fourth and later advanced to third before the team elected to pit with seven laps remaining in Stage Two. The strategy left Creed 11th at the stage finish but positioned the No. 00 Vielight Chevrolet for the final run to the checkered flag.
Staying out during the stage caution moved Creed up to sixth for the start of the final stage, and he soon raced his way into the top three. Running third with 40 laps remaining, Creed remained a contender before making a green-flag pit stop from third with 30 laps to go. He worked his way back into the top five and restarted from the second row after a caution with two laps remaining, ultimately finishing fifth.
“I had really good pace there to drive into the top 10 in the first stage and then we were able to use strategy to give me a chance to run up front” Creed said. “Unfortunately, a couple late restarts didn’t go our way, but thanks to everyone at Vielight for being on our Chevrolet for the first time today.”
0 Cole Custer
Cole Custer overcame an eventful afternoon at Pocono to charge through the field in the No. 0 Sysco Chevrolet. Making his fourth O’Reilly Series start of the season, the two-time Pocono winner was forced to start 36th after fuel pickup issues in practice prevented him from making a qualifying attempt. Custer’s day became even more challenging when he sustained front nose damage in a multi-car incident on lap 8, but the No. 0 team made repairs and kept him on the lead lap. Despite a loose-handling car from the damage, Custer climbed into the top 25 by the end of Stage One.
After taking tires and fuel during the stage break, Custer restarted 24th but then battled a tight condition that briefly dropped him backward. A pair of cautions allowed the team to continue making adjustments, and Custer responded by driving from 24th to 16th by the end of Stage Two as the handling of the No. 0 Sysco Chevrolet continued to improve.
Staying out during the stage caution moved Custer to 11th to begin the final segment, and he cracked the top 10 for the first time with 40 laps remaining. Following a green-flag pit stop from ninth, Custer cycled back into contention and restarted eighth after a late caution, his best running position of the afternoon. A red flag ultimately set up a late-race restart, with Custer going on to finish 12th after rallying from the rear of the field.
